Observational constraints on a decaying cosmological term

چکیده
We investigate the evolution of a universe with a decaying cosmological term (vacuum energy) that is assumed to be a function of the scale factor. In this model, while the cosmological term increases to the early universe, the radiation energy density is lower than the model with the cosmological "constant". We find that the effects of the decaying cosmological term on the expansion rate at the redshift z < 2 is negligible. However, the decrease in the radiation density affects on the thermal history of the universe; e.g. the photon decoupling occurs at higher z compared to the case of the standard ΛCDM model. As a consequence, a decaying cosmological term affects on the cosmic microwave background anisotropy. We show the angular power spectrum in DΛCDM model and compare with the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data.

متن کاملDecaying Dark Energy in Higher-Dimensional Gravity
Aims. We use data from observational cosmology to put constraints on higherdimensional extensions of general relativity in which the effective four-dimensional dark-energy density (or cosmological “constant”) decays with time. Methods. In particular we study the implications of this decaying dark energy for the age of the universe, large-scale structure formation, big-bang nucleosynthesis and t...

The inclusion of cosmological constant into Einstein field equation was done primarily by Einstein himself with a view to model a static universe. Later he discarded the cosmological constant (and commented [1] “...... the biggest blunder of my life”), on the basis of the observational data supporting the expansion of the universe. Subsequently, it was reintroduced and then omitted to match wit...
متن کاملJerk and the cosmological equation of state
Abstract. Linearizing the cosmological equation of state around the current epoch p = p0 + κ0 (ρ− ρ0) +O[(p− p0)2], is the simplest model one can consider that does not make any a priori restrictions on the nature of the cosmological fluid. Most popular cosmological models attempt to be “predictive”, in the sense that once some a priori equation of state is chosen the Friedmann equations are us...
متن کاملTunneling in Λ Decaying Cosmologies and the Cosmological Constant Problem
The tunneling rate, with exact prefactor, is calculated to first order in h̄ for an empty closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with decaying cosmological term Λ ∼ R−m ( R is the scale factor and m is a parameter 0 ≤ m ≤ 2 ). This model is equivalent to a cosmology with the equation of state pχ = (m/3 − 1)ρχ. The calculations are performed by applying the diluteinstanton approximation...
